FARMWISE Project Advances Sustainable Agriculture
Murcia, Spain
FARMWISE successfully hosted its 3rd General Assembly Meeting at CEBAS-CSIC in Murcia. Over the course of two days, project partners, experts, and stakeholders gathered to assess progress, share insights, and strategize the future of sustainable agriculture and water management in Europe.
The event featured in-depth discussions on project innovations, including Decision Support Systems (DSS), precision agriculture techniques, and advanced technologies aimed at optimizing water resources and reducing environmental impact. Experts presented updates on data integration, climate resilience modeling, and sustainable water management, demonstrating how FARMWISE is actively addressing key challenges in modern agriculture.
One of the highlights of the meeting was a series of field visits to local case study sites, where attendees witnessed first-hand how FARMWISE technologies are being implemented. These visits provided tangible proof of how theoretical research is translating into real-world solutions, helping farmers reduce waste, protect water resources, and improve productivity.
The project lead Ronny Berndtsson and manager Sebastian Puculek emphasized the importance of collaboration in agricultural innovation. They highlighted how bringing together experts, farmers, and policymakers has been instrumental in advancing precision agriculture, AI-driven decision tools, and sustainable farming practices. The discussions in Murcia underscored the need for continued cooperation to ensure that these innovations are both effective and widely adopted.
The meeting also reflected on the impact of FARMWISE initiatives so far. The project has made significant strides in reducing water and nutrient waste through optimized resource management. It has also enhanced decision-making tools that support policymakers and farmers in making informed choices that boost agricultural productivity while minimizing environmental impact. Additionally, scalable models developed within the project are helping to reduce pollution and improve water quality, aligning with the EU’s Zero Pollution goals.
Building on the success of the previous General Assembly held at the University of Oulu, Finland, in June 2024, the Murcia meeting marked another key milestone in the project’s journey. The discussions and insights gained will shape the next phase of FARMWISE, ensuring that it continues to align with European sustainability objectives.
As the project moves forward, stakeholders and the public are encouraged to stay informed through the FARMWISE website and social media channels, where updates on progress and upcoming initiatives will be shared.
